This is a Ruby on Rails application leveraging the MVC framework deployed on Heroku with Cloudflare. Rails provides an immense feature set, but can be overwhelming, as errors can traverse across the stack. In addition, the framework is losing popularity in favor of easier to use alternatives, like React, which is my preference moving forward as deploying Rails apps can also be a pain. This application was developed in an AWS Cloud9 environment and like most other cloud providers, Amazon provides free credits to new registrants which can be used on services like Cloud9 and even some basic deployments. However, in my experience, deploying to prod on AWS can be troublesome.
The background scenes throughout the page are original images from my mobile and edited using default Windows software. To limit the payload and fit within a usage tier on Heroku, much of the content is served from free sources, like Drive, and embedded. Heroku recently altered their usage plans that historically were free for hobby apps, but still offers student discounts for light usage web hosting. Cloudflare continues to offer a subset of free services.
